An Overview of Genetic Testing

Dr. Marsha Smith Appointed to American Academy of Neurology


Neurologist Dr. Marsha Smith of SOMC Neurology Associates was recently appointed to the

BrainPac Executive Committee and Member Research Subcommittee of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).

Her appointments are effective April 30, 2017 through May 5, 2019.


Founded in 1948, the AAN now represents more than 32,000

members and is dedicated to promoting high quality patient-centered care and

enhancing member career satisfaction through support, education, involvement, and avocation.


As a member of the BrainPac Executive Committee, Dr. Smith will help the AAN raise funds

for and direct contributions to candidates for federal office who support the interests of neurology

and neurologic patients. As a member of the Member Research Subcommittee, she will advise on the

need for and assist in the development, design, implementation, and communication of surveys and studies

that benefit the Academy and its members.


Dr. Smith received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She completed a residency in Neurology at Harvard University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts

and a Fellowship in Movement Disorder at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Her fellowship training included but is not limited to diagnosing and treating Parkinson’s disease,

Parkinsonism, essential tremor and dystonias. She is board certified in Neurology and has been part of the

medical staff of Southern Ohio Medical Center since 2011.
